Following the announcement of a new Mech Warrior game, Smith & Tinker has announced that Mech Warrior 4 will soon be available as a free download through Battletech.com.
Not only will the full game be up for download, but so will its expansion packs. There is no information available as to when the download will go live.
A brand new trailer for the new Mech Warrior game, currently being referred to as Mech Warrior, has also been released.
The game is currently being developed by Piranha Games using the Unreal Engine 3 in collaboration with Smith & Tinker. Piranha has been working on the game since October 2008, and if the video trailer is anything to go by then they have already achieved an impressive level of production.
The new Mech Warrior game is being billed as an “action-sim”, and is planned to be in the same vein as its predecessors.
Piranha president Russ Bullock has stated that one of the developer’s primary goals is to bring cross-platform play to the table. This would enable PC gamers to play alongside or against Xbox 360 gamers.
Piranha has stated that it still does not have a publisher for the game, and there is no release time frame available at present. We are sure that the attention that the announcement has attracted will have publishers clamoring to get involved with the product.
Unfortunately for PS3 owners, the rights to the Mech Warrior franchise currently belong to Microsoft who is licensing the brand out to Piranha and it is therefore highly unlikely that we will see a version ever released for Sony’s console . Piranha has confirmed that it is working on a PC and Xbox 360 version of the game.
