Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA) has announced that it is holding the South African National eSports Championships on August 15&16 at Northcliff High school in Johannesburg.
Players wishing to take part need to register at MSSA.
The MSSA points out that “the MSSA LAN Championships are the only officially recognised Local-Area-Network (LAN) Championships.”
The MSSA is the only organization that is able to award national and provincial colours in gaming.
The following games will be played at this year’s national championships:
Call of Duty 4
Counter Strike 1.6
Defense of the Ancients
Quake 3
StarCraft: Brood War
Track Mania Nations Forever
FIFA 09 (Playstation 3)
Guitar Hero World Tour (XBox 360)
National medals will be awarded as follows:
Premier (overall): 1st, 2nd, and 3rd
University teams: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd
High School: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd
Players who do not place in the top three in their respective game will still be eligible to earn national and provincial colours at the event. Players who win all of their games will automatically earn national colours.
Players finishing in the top 20% will automatically qualify to participate in national team trials. From here players can go on to represent South Africa in the same manner which any national sport team members do.
In order to enter players must complete an MSSA registration form and follow the registration instructions on the MSSA website. Players that are not members of a club will be defaulted to the “Knights” club. Players wanting to create their own official MSSA club can find the appropriate forms on the website.
