Kotaku reports that Activision will be releasing a Nintendo Wii version of the critically acclaimed Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (CoD4).
Wii owners received Call of Duty 5: World at War (CoD5) alongside the release of the game on other platforms back in 2008, but for some reason CoD4 has yet to be ported to the world’s biggest selling home console.
According to Kotaku, CoD4 for Wii will be released alongside the much hyped Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 which hits PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 on November 10.
Treyarch, arguably the lesser of the two separate developers that handle the Call of Duty brand for publisher Activsion, is said to be handling the port. Treyarch has experience with coding for the Wii, with the aforementioned Call of Duty 5: World at War, as well as Call of Duty 3 both being developed by Treyarch for Nintendo’s home console. It is no surprise that Infinity Ward, who developed CoD4 for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3, will not be handling the port as the developer is hard at work finishing up Call of Duty (6): Modern Warfare 2.
The move comes after Call of Duty 5: World at War shipped over 1 million copies on the Wii alone since its release last year.
Earlier this week Activision also announced that the Nintendo DS, which has sold over 100 million units worldwide, will also be receiving its first taste of the Modern Warfare universe with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare: Mobilized.
