Final Fantasy VII re-re-re-release now available…sort of

Out of nowhere, the PC digital download re-release of Final Fantasy 7 has gone live and is now available to purchase – except, not for you, because you live in South Africa.

Final Fantasy 7 – heralded by Final Fantasy fans as the best game in the series (even though that’s not true, because clearly Final Fantasy 6 was the best) was by no small measure the Final Fantasy that broke the franchise into the West when it launched on PS1 back in 1997.

The story follows the elite mercenary, Cloud Strife, as he takes on his old friend and hero – the white-haired and totes hardcore Sephiroth – on a journey across the world, wherein players face intrigue, revelation and sadness. All presented through the cubiest character models this side of Minecraft.

The re-re-re-release of Final Fantasy VII (PS1, PC, PS3, and now PC again) features some nifty new tools, including a Character Booster (if you don’t feel like grinding), Cloud Saves (as he does) and Achievements support (for bragging rights).

Unfortunately, due to South Africa not being a Square-Enix “serviced country”, we’re unable to grab FFVII PC just yet, as it’s currently only exclusively available through Square-Enix’s site.

If you know how to circumvent such geographical perplexities, the PC digital download has a special launch price of £7.99 / €9.99 (R102), which is only available for a limited period of time (regular price is €12.99).

This is obviously a money-making scam to sucker in fans begging for anything FFVII-related, so, naturally, I want it, and will cry quietly to myself (and anyone in the office unlucky enough to be within whining distance) while I wait for it to become available to us plebs in SA.
