Marvel Executive Vice President of Global Digital Media Group Ira Rubenstein recently told Joystiq that the company will no longer be focusing on second rate movie based games.
Following the yesterday’s announcement of Digital Comics for PSN at Sony’s GamesCom press conference Rubenstein revealed that “We are not doing movie-based games anymore,” going on to elaborate saying “we are not doing crappy movie-based games anymore. You can quote me on that.”
The executive explained that although the company would like to continue tying games to movies, each character should stick to their own world. One can only assume that he was referring to the slew of poorly reviewed games that the company has released to accompany movies in the past.
The first step in the right direction may have arguably been X Men Origins: Wolverine, released in May to coincide with the movie. The game itself received generally favourable reviews from the gaming community and holds a score of 75 on Metacritic, which is also what MyGaming gave it.
Rubenstein also revealed that he expects the Iron Man 2 and Thor games to be particularly good.
