BioShock 2 details emerge

9 September 2009

During a recent interview with GameGuru, BioShock 2 Developers – 2K Marin – have revealed, among other things, that the game will not feature  a co-operative mode despite fan expectations.

The developers confirmed that “there will be a multiplayer but no co-op” adding that there are no plans as yet to port BioShock or BioShock 2 to the Wii platform.

2K Marin went on to explain how the BioShock 2 storyline replates to the original game saying, “Because the single player game is a true sequel and the multiplayer game is essentially a prequel, the fiction is connected in the established time line of Rapture.”

BioShock 2 (single player) takes place several years after the events of the original BioShock 2 with the player plunged into Rapture’s history and forced to learn more about the city’s past sins.

Through this journey the player, in the role of the first Big Daddy who serves as the prototype of the Big Daddies that roam Rapture, will see how the city evolved from a failed utopia to uncontrolled chaos.

The first Big Daddy should be an exciting addition for fans of the BioShock franchise according to the developers. “We don’t want to go into too much detail at this time, but he’s dangerous in that he’s found a way to regain his free will and break away from the Big Daddy programming,” said 2K Marin.

“You’re not just playing any Big Daddy in BioShock 2; you are the prototype that was created as an experiment. In fact, you were so powerful that you have the ability to utilize Plasmids and do all sorts of things the other Big Daddies can’t do. You are also more agile than the later Big Daddies you fought in BioShock,” said 2K Marin.

The Big Sister, which has remained relatively unexplained since appearing in screenshots and gameplay footage, was also explained.

“The Big Sister is one of the biggest mysteries in Rapture. She travels to the mainland and kidnaps young girls all along the coast. It’s later discovered that she has been turning these young girls into Little Sisters as she tries to recreate Rapture’s past,” explained the developers.

Multiplayer, as previously mentioned, will exist as a prequel to the events in the original BioShock and it will take place during the onset of the civil war with Rapture already descending into disarray and the Plasmid industry developing offensive and defensive purposes

“Leading up to the Civil War, Plasmids were non-combative and helped Splicers cope with hair loss and other non-essential needs. Multiplayer takes you to the birth of combative Plasmids as you experience a number of Plasmids that enhance your player in a number of exciting ways,” concluded 2K Marin.

Bioshock 2 was originally expected to be released on October 30 but has since been pushed back to 2010, supposedly due to competition with upcoming titles such as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Borderlands.
