The original Skate was the game that dethroned the Tony Hawk franchise as the must-own skateboarding gaming brand. The sequel which launched early this year was also well received.
It therefore comes as no surprise that EA is working on a third installment of the popular Skateboarding series.
EA has not said much at this point, but a strong emphasis is being placed on the community element which will be central to Skate 3’s gameplay. Players will be able to put ‘skate crews’ together for example and participate in online as well as offline cooperative play.
“The social and community aspects of the SKATE franchise are something we’ve always embraced, but we’ve never done anything to the scale you’re going to see in SKATE 3,” said Senior Producer, Jason DeLong. “We’re giving gamers a very unique experience by providing them with the tools they need to build their ultimate team or to create a team comprised entirely of their online friends.”
Skate 3 is due for May 2010, on the PS3 and XBox 360.
