Left 4 Dead 2 developer Valve announced today that it will appeal the Australian judgement that the game is too violent to be released in that country.
Last week the Australian Office of Film and Literature Classification ruled that the zombie co-operative first person shooter was too graphic due to “frequent and intense depictions of violence” and “graphic depictions of blood and gore.”
Subsequently the panel chose to ban the game from retail in Australia without giving it an age rating. Despite this the original Left 4 Dead was released in Australia with an MA15+ rating – the highest in the country and equivalent to a South African restriction of 18.
With the announcement of the appeal Valve also revealed some of the ratings that the game has already been awarded internationally. These include an 18+ rating in Germany, Singapore, Korea and South Africa.
Left 4 Dead 2 is due to be released on Xbox 360 and PC on the 17th of November and will feature a cast of four new survivors as well as a number of new weapons such as frying pans and cricket bats.
