Developers get hands on CryEngine 3

15 October 2009

Back in March, we reported that Crytek was working on CryEngine 3. This is significant because CryEngine 2 is still regarded by many as the most visually impressive graphics rendering engine in gaming.

CryEngine 2 is used in Crysis, as well as Crysis Warhead, and while it is heavily resource hungry, it also delivers fantastic visuals.

The new engine marks the first venture for Crytek into cross platform gaming, meaning that it will work on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360, as opposed to the previous engines which were PC exclusive.

The engine has finally been released to developers, and will allow them to work with a single application, which can then output to PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.
