Infinity Ward comments on Modern Warfare 2 campaign length

20 October 2009

Infinity Ward community manager Robert Bowling has once again spoken out regarding Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 regarding criticism surrounding the length of the single player campaign.

One of the negative aspects players complained about in Modern Warfare was the length of the campaign, which measured in at roughly six hours. This number is unlikely to be improved in Modern Warfare 2 after Bowling revealed that Infinity Ward prefers to focus on the experience and the story rather than the length of the game reports IGN.

We never go into development saying ‘We’re going to make a 20 hour game because people want a 20 hour game’ – we want to deliver an intense experience where you walk away and go ‘wow, I want to play more,” said Bowling.

It’s okay for you to want to play more of something – that’s a good thing,” he continued, “And then you’ve got all these other modes. You might love the story, it left you wanting more but that’s great but jump into the multiplayer and 14 million people have been playing it for two years straight. That’s a long game, no matter how you look at it.”

The problem is that, at least for local gamers, the newly implemented iw.NET multiplayer protocol may make it impossible for South Africans to play the PC version of the game on local servers. If this is the case, then it will be very difficult to justify spending R499 on a 6 hour single player campaign alone.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will be released internationally on the 10th of November and will be available on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.
