EA has announced that the Need for Speed franchise has crossed the 100 million sold copies mark. This makes it the best selling racing franchise ever, and it has earned a whopping $2.7 billion since it launched back in 1994.
Frank Gibeau, EA Games Label president noted “Few video game franchises ever reach the 100 million units mark so this is a huge honor with the launch of Need for Speed SHIFT and the upcoming release of Need for Speed NITRO, we hope to continue to deliver the most entertaining, action-packed racing experiences.”
The most recent Need for Speed game, NFS: Shift marks a welcome return to form for a franchise which many were losing faith in.
