With the upcoming launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 (13 November), we are waiting for news from local gaming service providers on dedicated server hosting in SA.
Treyarch director of technology Cesar Stastny has prodded the expectations in a positive direction when replying to an inquisitive SA gamer via Twitter.
Treyarch has previously confirmed that dedicated ranked servers are on the cards for Black Ops II. There will be no rental servers, and the server files will not be released as a measure to prevent hacking and cheating, and preserve the ranking system.
Treyarch stated in a blog post that “every Public or League match is hosted on a dedicated server running in one of our high bandwidth datacenters around the globe.”
“We are providing a huge number of servers around the world at no extra charge – plenty for everyone to enjoy. And we will administer the servers.”
Treyarch has also outlined the anti-cheating measures, which will be a combination of their own “proprietary server-side anti-cheat technology” along with Valve Anti-Cheat (VAC). There will also be a player reporting system and Treyarch claims to have a “full-time dedicated pc anti-cheat team focused solely on detecting and banning cheaters.” So that’s nice.
