Telkom DoGaming has reported that local games distributor SterKinekor has temporarily stopped distributing its games due to a problem with its packaging company Replication Technology Group (RTG).
Apparently, RTG has been forced into liquidation, and therefore can no longer fulfill its obligations to SterKinekor. As a result SterKinekor is reportedly unable to dispatch its games to retailers, meaning that a shortage of select titles may be imminent.
According to a source at DoGaming, the following games may be affected; PES 2010, King of Fighters XII, Section 8, Red Faction: Guerilla (PC) and Marvel Super Hero Squad. It would seem that this problem may lead to some of these games being delayed, or difficult to find at retail.
SterKinekor was not able to comment at the time of publication. An ex-RTG employee did confirm to MyGaming that the company has indeed been liquidated. He could not say to what extent the company’s liquidation would affect SterKinekor, or the availability of its games.
Another local distributor Megarom also used RTG, but a representative told MyGaming that none of its current big releases will be affected by the liquidation.
SterKinekor declined to give any official comment at this time, and it remains to be seen to what extent the closure of RTG will affect the availability of games.
SterKinekor has just released Uncharted 2 and Pro Evolution Soccer 2010, two titles in particular that will be missed by fans if the shortages to materialize. The distributor is also responsible for a host of other big games, including Dawn of War II, Company of Heroes, Killzone 2, SingStar, Little Big Planet and UFC.
