Seldom does a game launch with as much hype surrounding it as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Pegged by many as the most anticipated game ever released, global pre-orders alone are sitting at 4.5-million.
The lead up to the release has been swamped in controversy. From the lack of dedicated PC servers, to the price hike, to the contentious terrorist mission which many conservatives have labeled a ‘murder simulator’.
Today is a big day then, as gamers around the world can finally get their hands on the much talked about title from Activision Blizzard.
Almost all local retailers will be selling the game from today, with many stores around the country holding midnight launches which saw dedicated fans getting their hands on a copy early this morning.

While Evo Games narrowly offers the lowest price on both console versions of the game, the margins between most retailers is quite narrow, with BT Games and Take 2 both selling the game at a slightly higher price point than Kalahari and Zaps. Evo Games charges R45 for delivery, while Kalahari delivers for free, making it the best option for online shoppers.
PC gamers will be pleased to see that the much publicized R499 recommended retail price on the PC version seems not to have taken a hold, with both Zaps and Kalahari selling it for below R450.
