Star Trek MMORPG release date announced

10 November 2009

Cryptic Studios, the developers behind upcoming Star Trek MMORPG Star Trek Online, yesterday announced an official release date for the game.

The online multiplayer game, which is set in the 25th Century –, 30 years after the events in Star Trek: NemesisNemesis – is due to be released in North America on the 2nd of February 2010 with a European release to following on the 5th. This is almost two months shy of the initial March 31st release suggested by Cryptic parent company Atari in a recent interview.

Star Trek Online is currently in its beta testing phase and has been billed by its developers as “the first MMO to offer both space and ground game play.”

In the game each player will be a captain of his or her own ship, with the mention of ‘Federation Captain’ and ‘Klingon Warrior’ as class possibilities. It has also been suggested that players will be able to beam down onto the face of different planets for more hand -to -hand orientated confrontations.
