Rumours have surfaced that Microsoft is currently disabling Xbox Live accounts based on the results of a legitimacy checking system.
According to the blog Pino Cosplay, Microsoft the company has banned 600,000 accounts in the US and Canada thus far, with a view to banning almost a million by the end of the month. It appears that the users which are being targeted have modified consoles. These consoles allow users to play pirated Xbox 360 games.
“Our office has gone to hell,” says a source in a Microsoft call centre. “People have been calling in around the clock and most of them are screaming teenagers who don’t understand the terms of use that comes with the console they bought.”
According to PS3 News the Xbox Live ban will result in a total ban from Xbox Live and reduced functionality while streaming from a Windows Media Player PC.
It is currently unclear whether Microsoft intends to begin deleting Xbox Live accounts in the rest of the world.
