Electronic Art’s second quarter financial results have revealed that recently released football simulator FIFA 10 has now become the company’s strongest selling European title ever.
In its first week alone the title sold over 4.5 million units and achieved a Metacritic rating of 91 of 100. The report has also revealed that seventeen recently released titles including NHL 10, The Beatles: Rock Band, Battlefield 1943, NCAA Football 10, Dead Space: Extraction, and Need for Speed SHIFT have ranked with a score of “80 or above”.
This report, according to ShackNews, places the publisher in the number one position regarding sales in both the US and Europe, releasing four of the top ten games for the quarter for both regions.
Despite the publisher’s perceived success through this reports and its recent acquisition of PlayFish, EA has also recently announced that it intends to undergo a retrenchment and restructuring program. This signals that despite positively received titles and strong sales number the gaming industry may not yet be out of the shadow of the global economic recession.
