Borderlands most successful new IP this year

17 November 2009

According to its developer Gearbox, Borderlands had “the fastest-selling original property video game launch of 2009”.

Original IP refers to games released that are not part of an existing franchise. The developer did not provide exact sales figures, but recent NPD stats reveal that the game sold 513,000 copies on PS3 and Xbox 360 in the US alone in October.

Although franchise sequels are great, there is generally more potential in new concepts. Unfortunately, these are becoming rarer as franchise sequels generally sell better and are therefore more attractive for investors.

Another hot new IP recently released is Bioware’s Dragon Age: Origins.
