The existence of a new religiously focused motion controlled game entitled ‘Mass: We Pray’ has been proven to be an elaborate hoax for upcoming video game adaptation of Dante’s Inferno.
Last week MyGaming reported the announcement of Mass: We Pray, a religiously based title which would supposedly allow families to worship from home using CROSS and the KNEELER motion controls.
It has now been revealed that those who try to use the Mass: We Pray website are presented with a pop up message which reads: “He who betrays the beliefs of the Church blackens his soul with the sin of Heresy. A Mass not celebrated by ordained priest or on consecrated soil is naught but false ritual condemned by clergy”
Users are then given options to watch “an Exclusive Dante’s Inferno Trailer” or “Damn thy Fellow Sinners to Hell” through a “Go To Hell” Facebook application.
Publishers Electronic Arts have drawn heavy criticism from religious groups for the campaign. Earlier this year the company outraged Christians for staging a fake protest against Dante’s Inferno at Electronic Entertainment Expo. Actors held signs featuring phrases such as “Trade in your PlayStation for a PrayStation,” “Hell is not a game,” and “My high score is in Heaven.”
Although EA later apologised for the incident it seems that the publisher has found itself on the wrong side of religious groups once again.
Dante’s Inferno, which is an action adventure title developed by Visceral Games, is due for release internationally in early February.
