Ubisoft has said that its open-world hack-‘n-shoot action game, Watch Dogs, will use PC as its lead platform.
Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said that the PC will be a focus of the game, while porting to the Playstation 4 will be easier than it was with PS3, due to the AMD-based architecture of Sony’s forthcoming console.
“We expect fewer problems with porting games to the PS4 than the PS3, which had a completely different infrastructure. Previously, we developed games first on the Xbox 360 and then translated them onto the PS3. It took a lot of time and money to port,” explained Guillemot.
Ubisoft’s technical director, Sebastien Viard, also mentioned that Watch Dogs will not be using the Assassin’s Creed engine as speculated, and instead runs on an entirely new engine.
“Watch Dogs uses a brand new engine called Disrupt, developed specifically for the game at Ubisoft Montreal,” Viard said. “It’s not Assassin’s Creed engine.”
Ubisoft has confirmed that the game will hit current-gen consoles (Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U), PS4 and PC.
