The new Doom game from id Software will be called… Doom.
No number, no suffix, just Doom.
It’s been 21 years since the original Doom rocked the world with its fast-paced FPS action, and more details have been revealed about the upcoming title at QuakeCon.
The game is being developed on id Tech 6 and will launch for PC, Xbox One, and PS4. The multiplayer aspect is touted as “fast and competitive”, and weapon switching is handled via a radial menu which slows down time when selected.
One of the game’s producers said a double-barrel shotgun, rocket launcher, and rapid-fire plasma rifle will be among the arsenal on offer. If you get shot by one of these guns – or any weapon for that matter – your health won’t regenerate.
There have also been reports that you can rip the limbs off of enemies, and in one case a demon ripped off a player’s arm and beat him to death with it.
Oh, and there is a chainsaw, for those who like close-quarter combat.
The game is set to run in 1080p at 60fps, and the developers have promised a title that will meet “the very high expectations everyone has for this game”.
I don’t know about you, but I am very excited to beat someone to death with their own arm. Bring on the new Doom.
