We never really need to tell you that there is a new Need for Speed on the horizon, that’s a given at this point – a new Need for Speed is as indubitable as the sun rising.
What is interesting, however, is the particular direction EA and whomever they rope in to develop this latest iteration will go with the franchise – Need for Speed has been down practically every avenue of racing genre.
Ghost Games, formerly EA Gothenburg, are who’s working on the next Need for Speed, a reboot of the entire franchise it seems, with its official reveal coming June 15th.
Ghost Games is responsible for Need for Speed Rivals, one of the better received Need for Speed titles of late, so there’s the possibility that this will be a worthwhile title.
Then there’s this teaser trailer:
The modded cars; the dingy, dimly lit streets; the handy-cam recording; Need for Speed’s reboot is almost certainly taking the underground approach.
With over 20 years of history in its rear view mirror, Need for Speed returns with a reboot that delivers on what Need for Speed stands for – rich customization, authentic urban car culture, a nocturnal open world, and an immersive narrative that drives your NFS game.”
It’s a wise choice given that the franchise does fairly well when focussed around street racing.
As much as we loved Need for Speed: Shift, Project CARS and the forthcoming Forza 6 have the simulator racer genre locked down.
Expect Need for Speed’s reboot to incorporate the Need for Speed Network.
Just don’t expect the game to release too soon, Ghost Games are still in the process of hiring a number of staff, many of which we suspect will be working on this title.
