Sony has announced that director David O. Russell has signed on to make an Uncharted movie.
The director’s name can be found adorning the credits for the likes of I ♥ Huckabees and Three Kings, as well as lesser know indie projects Flirting with Disaster and Spanking the Monkey.
Russell was previously in negotiations to do the film, but ended up turning it down so that he could make a film adaptation of the 2009 novel, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. Russell pulled out, however, when he learned that Natalie Portman would not be staring in the movie.
Russell will not only direct the Uncharted movie, but according to the Hollywood Reporter, he will also write the script.
“David is a tremendous choice to take on this film,” said Matt Tolmach, co-president of Sony-owned Columbia Pictures. “He’s equally adept at combining all the classic elements involved in this property: great character development, strong comedy, and amazing action sequences. He has a brilliant vision for this material and we know he will bring his original, unique voice to this adaptation.”
