2022 is setting out to be one of the better years for gamers, with most of us spoiled for choice with the number of exciting games on the way.
All of the games I will be listing are scheduled for release this year, but not every single one has had a release date announced yet (TBA).
Here’s my list of the best games on the way that will keep me up at night with excitement.
1. Elden Ring – 25 February
Elden Ring promises to be FromSoftware’s most expansive world yet by bringing the tried-and-tested action role-playing Souls formula to an open world.
2. God of War: Ragnarok – TBA
God of War Ragnarok will conclude Kratos and Atreus’ Norse saga in a title that will plunge the player straight into the heart of the gruesome Norse apocalypse.
Considering God of War (2018) is one of my favourite games, it’s not difficult to see why I’m excited about the sequel.
3. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild sequel (BOTW 2) – TBA
Link, along with his trusty paraglider, will return to Hyrule in what promises to be another excellent entry in the Legend of Zelda series.
BOTW 2’s new gameplay mechanics and riveting storytelling promise to keep gamers enthralled for hours on end.
4. Ghostwire: Tokyo – 25 March
Ghostwire: Tokyo is set in a fictional open-world sandbox version of Tokyo that will have the player face off against creatures from Japanese mythology.
5. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chernobyl – 8 December
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chernobyl will bring back the dread-inducing apocalyptic first-person shooter that has you constantly looking over your shoulder to get the jump on some mutant before it gets the jump on you.
6. Gran Turismo 7 – 4 March
Gran Turismo will be the latest entry in one of the top racing simulator franchises available.
Beautifully realistic graphics and simulated physics will make the casual onlooker think you are watching an episode of Top Gear.
7. Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora – TBA
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora will be a new standalone open-world title from Ubisoft.
The player will take on the role of a Na’vi to experience everything that Pandora’s beautifully hostile world has to offer through an immersive first-person perspective.
8. Dead Space (Remake) – TBA
Face your demons in the Dead Space remake, in which Necromorphs make their return to haunt your nightmares with their jawless faces and spider-like bodies.
Luckily you’ll still have the option of dismembering them before they eat your face.
9. Starfield – 11 November
Starfield will be Bethesda’s newest space-themed action role-playing experience that will finally pull me away from replaying The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim for yet another time.
10. Marvel’s Midnight Suns: TBA
Marvel’s Midnight Suns will bring players a tactical role-playing experience, with turn-based combat similar to the XCOM games.
Players will be able to recruit a host of heroes to their team to utilise in battle, including Doctor Strange, Iron Man, and Ghost Rider.
