Graphical evolution of first-person shooters

1 March 2013

With the next-generation of consoles preparing to come and take over our lives, it’s a good opportunity to look back on the graphical advancements up to now.

First-person shooters in particular are the world’s favourite genre in gaming, and their graphical evolution has always been one of the interesting things to watch.

A montage video by YouTuber drloser333 shows a number of the genre’s biggest games, and how they each marked the next graphical step for the industry.

The video begins with Wolfenstein 3D, the granddaddy of it all, and expectedly ends with Crysis, ArmA 2, Metro 2033 and Battlefield 3.
