Pickings were slim this week in the retail specials arena, but there are still some options for discerning shoppers, along with plenty of online options. This includes sales at SA retailer BT Games, and plenty of digital download deals from Xbox LIVE, PSN, Steam, and GOG.com.
BT games clearance and PlayStation Plus subscription special
BT Games has launched its catalogue for a clearance sale at stores nationwide. The specials include discounts across a range of gaming titles (from latest releases to classic back-catalogue), hardware, and peripherals.
The games clearance sale runs from 25 January to 10 February 2013. For full details on the clearance catalogue, vie this article: BT Games clearance sale deals revealed
BT Games is still running a pretty good deal on PlayStation plus subscriptions, essentially costing R1 a day for the subscription. You can get 90 days for R90, or 365 days for R365.
PlayStation Plus offers benefits to PS3 and PS Vita owners, such as plenty of free games, discounts on purchases, cloud saves, and background downloads.
The special is valid until 31 January while stocks last.
Xbox LIVE Deal of the Week
Fancy a game of cowboys and undead Indians? On the ZA Xbox LIVE Marketplace Deal of the Week, Rockstar’s great cowboy adventure Red Dead Redemption sees a bunch of DLC packs on special. The Undead Nightmare collection will have you playing with zombies without the need of the original Red Dead Redemption disc.
Gold members receive a 50% discount on the standard prices.
PlayStation Store Sale
PlayStation Network’s January sale is in its final stage, and has pulled out the big akimbo guns this week. The games on special includes: Max Payne 3; GTA 4: The Complete Edition; Red Dead Redemption and the Undead Nightmare Collection; and PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale.
PS Plus subscribers get a further 10% discount on all sale items.
Steam Specials
Steam is running a Square Enix weekend sales promotion, with discounts across the range of the publisher’s titles. Today for example, you can pick up the entire Tomb Raider collection (sans the upcoming reboot) for US$15 – a 75% discount.
Each day there will be a new super-special, so keep an eye for the likes of Sleeping Dogs, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, and the Hitman franchise going cheap.
GOG.com Specials
GOG.com is mixing old and new in their specials this weekend. The strong CRPG Neverwinter Nights 2: Complete represents the classics, while just-released space-combat game Strike Suit Zero and the soon-to-be-released Omerta: City of Gangsters make a good case for DRM-free new releases.
Other specials
For something off the beaten path, Desura.com’s specials could tickle your interest.
If you are keen on pre-ordering some of the big upcoming PC games, consider using Greenman Gaming, as they always have a pre-order discount special coupons available, usable on top of any existing discounts.
