Destroying some random house in a game just because you feel like it is a lot of fun. The problem with living in the real world is that you have to abide by “society’s rules” and are not allowed to destroy stuff at your leisure.
But, in a game, you can do whatever you want, whenever you want. Here are some of the games with the best destruction mechanics.
Battlefield 4
Battlefield 4’s Levolution lets you create millions of Rands worth of damage in no time at all, especially if you are in tank. The game’s engine lets buildings topple, bridges collapse, and allows you to destroy concrete barriers cowardly enemies are hiding behind.
Ever since the first Bad Company, fans of the series have always been treated to some good old building dust. The series has built its reputation on its great destruction, implementing it into both single player and multiplayer modes.
Red Faction: Armageddon
Setting up bombs at the base of a large tower just to see it fall while crying “timber” – Red Faction was a lot of fun. The title was a great way to express your passion for all things explosive. Let us not forget the rocket powered unicorn that shot rockets out of its behind, making destruction a whole lot more colourful.
Just Cause 2
My all-time favourite destruction game has to be Just Cause 2. Flying around in a rocket-powered helicopter over a base filled with gas cylinders and blowing everything to hell – Just Cause 2’s destruction capabilities were almost addictive.
Far Cry 2
The pyromaniacs out there will love Far Cry 2. There are fire hazards everywhere, and the dry land in Africa is quite conducive to being burnt to a crisp in a matter of seconds. Petrol bombs are a favourite of mine for eradicating unnecessary trees and wildlife.
GTA V
There is nothing better than lining up some cars at a stop street, making sure the people are inside, and throwing a sticky bomb on the back – it’s like dominoes on fire. GTA V has some great destruction when it comes to cars, and it makes finding that busy intersection worth your while.
Crysis
Crysis was not only one of the best looking games of 2007, it also had some epic explosions thanks to the CryEngine. The game might not have has the best destructible environments, but launching a rocket into a tank, blowing up a hut, or shooting a helicopter out of the sky never looked better.
Just shows the human destructive nature, which is an appetite that is not quenched, ever. You may say it’s just a game but it’s still a human act.
