Indie games we just cannot wait to play

Triple-A games, when done right, are certainly worth the asking price, but what about those smaller worlds?

Indie games can often create a videogaming vision like no other, and we love them for that.

Here are a few indie games that are coming your way that you should keep your eyes open for:

Firewatch – PC, PS4

In Firewatch, the Wyoming wilderness is a deceptively dark and empty place.

You play as Henry, a man who left his busy city life behind to live in the simplicity of the great outdoors.

Henry, along with his radio contact Dellilah, need to work together to investigate mysterious disturbances across the vast forest.

Firewatch features a massive, well-imagined world to explore as you make decisions that will ultimately affect the relationship between you and your radio contact.

Enter the Gungeon – PC, PS4

Shoot, loot, dodge, roll and table-flip your way through dungeons to find the ultimate weapon, a gun that can kill the past.

Pick a character, each of which are filled with regret and so on a mission to find a way to change their past decisions.

Discover new guns to help you eliminate the threat that stands in your way, find treasure and spend all of your hard-earned cash at merchants to purchase powerful items.

Enter the Gungeon takes dungeon crawling to a whole new level as you unleash the power of absurd ammunition, be it with missiles, lasers, rainbows, fish, bees or anything else you might have been afraid to load into a gun.

Chasm – PC, PS4

A small mining village has fallen silent, and a young soldier names Daltyn is sent to investigate the mystery surrounding the phenomenon.

Upon arrival at the remote mountain, Daltyn discovers that paranormal forces have sealed the town off from the rest of the world.

As Daltyn explores the various locations, Daltyn comes face to face with deadly traps, enemies and other dangers that threaten his life.

This procedurally-generated game is set across six areas, all filled with their own unique enemies, required approaches and visual styles.

As you progress through the game, Daltyn grows stronger and unlocks new abilities that will help him along the way.

Stasis – PC

John Maracheck awakens form stasis on a re-purposed mining ship, orbiting around Neptune. Cayne Corporation is a mutli-trillion dollar company that has funded this operation.

It seems that is has been a cover for horrific experimental research that has caused catastrophe on the ship.

You now need to survive the horrors that await you as you try and back it back home to your wife and daughter.

Below – PC, Xbox One

Below is a top down adventure game where the player controls a “tiny warrior” as he explores the depths of a remote island.

Focusing on exploration themes, your goal is to survive the trials that await below as you explore the procedurally-generated world.

The game is brutal but fair, as you try and avoid permanent death, forcing you to restart the entire game

Owlboy – PC

The islands of the world have been spread apart after a great calamity.

Playing as Otus, an ancient race of (said-to-be) extinct owls, you will explore the vertical lands that await in the sky.

The goal, try and save your village from pirates that have taken over the lands above. It’s a relatively simple concept that has been executed beautifully.

The game resembles a classis Sega Genesis title with its colourful environments and smooth animations.

Cuphead – PC, Xbox One

Cuphead is a run-and-gun action game that has a strong emphasis on boss battles. The game is inspired by 1930’s cartoons and the engine that it runs on has been created to resemble the art techniques used in that era, and it does it to fantastic effect.

Watercolour backgrounds, jazz music and traditional cel shaded animations all make the game feel like a Disney cartoon from the Steamboat Willie days.

Two player local co-op will let you and your friend take down the bosses that await as you try and get back your free-will from the devil who took it from you when you lost a bet, forcing you to do his bidding.
