Crisis in Metal Gear Solid V – Don't Fall Victim

So I just got falcon punched in the face by the biggest troll in gaming history, Hideo Kojima.

At a certain point in the game, a severely drastic situation will begin decimating your personnel.

I have written this article so that anyone playing this game can avoid this very debilitating tragedy, at the cost of a spoiler. Seriously, it’s worth reading on.

After Mission 20, the mysterious parasite that various people you encounter throughout the game are suffering from will reach Mother Base, causing an epidemic amongst your beloved staff.

The mysterious parasite has all kinds of effects…

If you do not move the symptomatic victims into the newly created Quarantine Platform, you will most likely lose hundreds of members and thousands of heroism points, as I did.

I foolishly thought that this process was being done automatically.

The way to combat the epidemic is to hand pick the infected and move them to the Quarantine Platform in order to avoid further infection.

The big problem with this process is that there is a specific and obscure trait that the infected all share, language.

Extracting the mysterious ‘Code Talker’ will end the epidemic, but until then it’s up to you to curb decimation.

The parasitical virus is some twisted, ethnic cleansing abomination that only targets those P.W. Botha would.

Something not even Hitler could have dreamed up, but somehow a mild mannered, middle-aged Japanese game developer did.

Anyway, what you want to do when your Mother Base gets hit by the plague is find any members amongst your staff that speak the language ‘Kikongo’.

Using the iDroid, go into the ‘Staff Management’ tab and scroll through your various departments.

Anyone that speaks Kikongo must be slammed in the Quarantine Platform to avoid, in my case, 221 members KIA and 6630 Heroism points lost.

Yes, this is a game involving much pain and loss, and broken controllers.

The obscurity of this process and its ensuing catastrophe is meant to hurt you and your base – in order to foster incredible rage and desire for vengeance in the player – to better help you empathize with Big Boss and his allies and fill their shoes as you now burn to avenge your fallen comrades.

It would, however, be much better not to fall victim to Kojima’s sadism.

When the time comes, make sure you cut your losses and separate the sick from the healthy.

I lost 221 highly skilled people I spent countless hours securing in the field.

Screw you, Kojima. No wonder they kicked you out of Konami.
