South African PlayStation gamers can look forward to new games like God of War Laufey and Until Dawn 2, while new footage sheds more light on upcoming releases like Marvel’s Wolverine and Control Resonant.
This information was made available at Sony’s latest State of Play showcase, which comprised over 60 minutes of updates and announcements.
State of Play is used by Sony several times a year to share the latest news on its upcoming titles.
It features a mix of new game reveals, launch date announcements, and gameplay/story trailers for already-revealed games.
This State of Play was bookended by arguably the two most powerful reveals – an extended gameplay trailer of Marvel’s Wolverine, and the announcement of the upcoming God of War Laufey game.
Other interesting announcements included the surprise announcement of Until Dawn 2, and the release of both a launch date, and story trailer, for Control Resonant.
Learn more about these announcements below.
Marvel’s Wolverine
Marvel’s Wolverine, a single-player action adventure game, is being developed by Insomniac Games – the studio behind the Marvel’s Spiderman series.
The studio shared the various violent, bloody combat techniques of the titular Wolverine character.
It also revealed additional characters from the game – including Jean Grey.
God of War Laufey
God of War Laufey is the latest addition to the iconic God of War franchise.
It takes an interesting approach by focusing on Laufey – the dead wife of Kratos.
According to the State of Play presentation, Laufey will fight through the afterlife in magical lands to save the people she loves most.
Until Dawn 2
Until Dawn 2 is the sequel to the popular interactive drama survival horror game, Until Dawn – a game that paved the way for The Dark Pictures Anthology.
The original game, developed by Supermassive Games, focused heavily on letting you “choose your own adventure” while controlling eight young adults on a mountain retreat gone wrong.
Until Dawn 2 features a new cast and setting, where a crew of ghost hunters visit an abandoned tropical island to chase the next viral hit TV show – but get more than they bargain for.
Control Resonant
Control Resonant will launch globally on 24 September – and along with a release date, the sequel to Control received a new story trailer.
Manhattan is now warped by paranatural forces, with shifting realities, monstrous entities, and impossible architecture all now present.
Lead character Dylan must master his evolving abilities, while also learning to maximise the power of his shapeshifting weapon, the Aberrant.
