Games you can play this week – rebellions and rage

Now that Uncharted 4 and Doom have landed, the upcoming weeks have a lot to live up to. This week, we get a long-awaited sequel to a shooter that had a lot of promise but ultimately underachieved, and a reboot of an old classic that will give gamers the chance to unleash their inner-beast.

Homefront: The Revolution

Release date: 20 May 2016 (PC, PS4, Xbox One)

Set four years after the original Homefront (which while having a compelling story, did leave some mixed reviews), Homefront: The Revolution follows protagonist Ethan Brady as he struggles to reclaim the city of Philadelphia from an alternate, reunified Korea, which is using the city as its central base after invading the country years ago.

This first-person shooter promises a large, open world and a variety of tasks to discover and complete, along with a multiplayer component to keep gamers coming back for more.

Shadow of the Beast

Release date: 17 May 2016 (PS4)

The new Shadow of the Beast is based on the 1989 Amiga game, which many remarked was quite challenging and equally as brutal for its time.

The super-slick 2.5D slash-’em-up throws players into the beastly shoes of Aarbron, who was kidnapped as a child and corrupted through magic into a monstrous warrior-servant. The result is a vicious side-scroller that iterates on the combat of the original, introducing rhythm action-esque timing challenges as you power through enemy hordes, softening them up with light attacks before getting lead character Aarbron’s claws out for more savage flurries.
