Portal for Oculus Rift demonstrated

12 January 2014

At CES 2014, Oculus VR creative director Danny Woodall demonstrated the virtual reality headset Oculus Rift by playing a special version of Portal 2.

The game has been modified slightly for use with the Oculus Rift; for example, the player is able to move an already placed portal for greater precision.

Woodall appears to be using an older prototype of the Oculus Rift. The company unveiled their latest version at CES 2014 (the Crystal Cove prototype), boasting greatly improved features.

The display is boosted to 1080p AMOLED with 110 degrees of vision, motion blur and latency has been reduced, and positional tracking and head-motion movement has been implemented.

In the video below, developer Nate Mitchell discusses the progress of the project, and the engineering and software design challenges.
