Custom-built Raspberry Pi Game Boy plays hundreds of games

A Raspberry Pi enthusiast has created a Game Boy that runs hundreds of classic games using a Raspberry Pi Zero.

YouTuber ‘wermy‘ has combined the processing power of a Raspberry Pi with the utility and design of a classic Game Boy. The resulting device is able to play a variety of classic games off an SD card using an emulator.

The case which houses the Raspberry Pi Zero is an old Game Boy case which has been made slightly larger and had extra buttons added so that the device has the required number of inputs for newer games.

The modded Game Boy is powered by a lithium-ion battery and retains similar functionality to the classic Game Boy, although all the hardware is improved – including the device’s display.

The most impressive aspect of the build is the modified Game Boy cartridge, which has been hooked up to an internal SD card.
