Choosing the right gaming monitor is one of the most important decisions a PC gamer can make, as this will affect your GPU requirement and the type of games you can play.
While some cheaper monitors are good for gaming, some lack the specifications or quality expected in a gaming monitor.
We’ve listed a few key things to keep in mind when shopping for a gaming monitor so that you can purchase the most effective monitor for your needs.
Choosing a Monitor
If you have a big budget and want the best monitor for gaming, you should get a monitor with a 27-inch screen, IPS panel, 2,560 x 1,440 resolution, under 15ms input lag, 144Hz refresh rate, and FreeSync or G-Sync.
If you have a more limited budget, you will have to sacrifice some of the specs mentioned above for those more relevant to your needs.
If you are an average gamer with a low budget and just want a decent monitor for casual gaming, then you probably don’t need all the specs above.
Specifications
We recommend the following specs when choosing a monitor for gaming.
- Refresh rate – at least 60Hz
- Response time – lower than 10ms
- Input lag – Lower than 30ms
- Resolution – At least 1080p (Full HD)
- Screen size – At least 23-inch
- Adaptive Sync – Recommended

The 6 best smartphones you can buy in South Africa

I used use 4x 23″ 1080p screens, just bought a Samsung 4K 27″ monitor and now using 1x 4K + 1x 1080p. Viewing between 1080p and 4k is huge. Why 4k ? I am self employed, work from home. Gaming ? Can still be done on 4K monitor but in 1080p windowed mode, in 1080p the game takes up about 40% of the screen.
Once you have used 4k you would never wanna go back. I am saving up to buy a second 4k screen.
Gfx card ? Radeon RX 480.
