Craziest ways to cool your gaming PC

overclocking liquid nitrogen

Whether you’re a gamer or a professional using high-end hardware, keeping your components cool is vitally important for the health and efficiency of your gaming rig.

Hardware enthusiasts have a variety of cooling options available to them, including standard air cooling, all-in-one liquid cooling solutions, or even custom open water-cooling loops.

However, there are other solution to cooling your components, and they can be quite crazy:

Liquid Nitrogen

Used mostly by overclockers to keep temperatures low during heavy overclocking sessions.

Usually, the exceedingly low temperatures provided by cooling a processor with liquid nitrogen allows overclockers to get a bit more clock speed from the silicon.

It is not very viable for everyday cooling, as it requires constant oversight and monitoring in order to maintain a usable temperature.

Mineral Oil

This type of cooling is more popular among case designers and modders due to its unique aesthetic appeal.

Cooling your components this way involves submerging your entire PC in a tank filled with mineral oil, which is not conductive and will not short out your components.

The oil absorbs the heat from the components and is cooled, cooling the components in turn.

No fans

For those who get irritated by the sound of a fan no matter how slow or large it is, but don’t want to submerge their beloved gaming PC in a fishtank.

If you attach a big enough heatsink (or vapor chambing cooling solution) you can cool components simply by dissapation and without the need for noisy fans or pumps.

However, there is a limit to how effective this method is and space is the biggest factor. So if you want to cool your monster gaming rig, you’ll need a heatsink bigger than your case.

Too many fans

Of course, you can always go the opposite route and opt for cooling efficiency over noise levels and add more fans to increase airflow.

By using a combination of decent heatsinks and powerful, numerous fans, air cooling can be at least as effective as liquid cooling.

Some can go overboard however, like this modder who made his entire chassis out of standard desktop fans.
