5 hot upcoming PC cases

Do you need a new case? Of course you don’t, but that doesn’t mean you don’t want one. Luckily for gamers most of the large case manufacturers are coming out with new ranges of cases, from the mid-range feature rich options, through to large and in charge aluminum behemoths. Here are some of the hot new cases gamers can look forward too:

NZXT Phantom 820

The successor to the prolific NZXT Phantom, the 820 has kept the typical styling of the Phantom series along with key features such as a built-in fan controller and water cooling support. It also features a built-in card reader, HUE LED lighting system, three 200mm fans and 140mm fans, and has space for up to E-ATX sized motherboards.

Its combination of steel and plastic means the case weighs in at 15kgs, lower than many other high-end system cases.

Silverstone Fortress FT03

Silverstone don’t like the typical case layout that other manufacturers use for pretty much all of their cases. Their Raven series of cases introduced us to the Silverstone way of mounting components, complete with cable compartments to hide all of the mess, and the Fortress series aims to pick up where the Raven left off.

The FT03 will turn heads at any LAN thanks to its unconventional shape and size. It features m-ATX motherboard support and has space for extra-long high-end graphics cards, full size ATX power supplies, and large CPU coolers, as well as a slot loading DVD or Blu Ray drive.

The Fortress has landed on our shores, and is available from Evetech.

Cooler Master Cosmos II

Although it’s already available in South Africa, the low supply and high price of the Cosmos II means most gamers will just keep looking forward to owning this case. The case weighs around 22kgs and is made of aluminium and steel-alloy. It also supports high-end hardware including XL-ATX motherboards, 385mm-long graphics cards, and 13 3.5-inch hard drive bays.

The Cosmos II has a front control panel with built-in fan and LED controlles, “race car inspired side panels”, and a focus on extreme air cooling using up to 10 fans. It also has space for water-cooling radiators and extra tall CPU coolers, meaning every aspect of the Cosmos II is intended for high-end use.

Lian Li PC-A76X

Lian Li and high-end aluminium cases are synonymous, and the PCA76X hopes to live up to the company’s reputation. Everything about the case is high-end, from HPTX motherboard support to the 9 standard 3.5-inch hard drive bays. The case is also designed with cooling in mind, featuring 8 cooling fans (5 x 140mm, 3 x 120mm).

The case supports extra-length graphics cards and power supplies, as well as most tall CPU air coolers. The all-aluminium case means it weighs in at only 9.5kgs, and it should land on our shores within the next few months.

The Cooler Master Storm Scout 2 is the successor to one of the company’s most popular mid-range LAN cases. One of the smallest and lightest cases here, the Scout 2 weighs in at 8.3kgs and supports seven 3.5-inch drive bays, two 2.5-inch drive bays, and motherboard up to ATX size.

The cases’ bottom hard drive cages are removable to accommodate extra length graphics cards, and there is space for up to 10 cooling fans, as well as water cooling radiators.
