Corsair has made many, many nice chassis for enthusiasts and budget system builders, but it’s never made anything very small. Enter the obscenely beautiful Obsidian 350D.
Corsair has announced worldwide availability in the US and UK with an RRP of $100, or R909.20 at the current exchange rate. There is no SA pricing and availability information at the time of writing (29 April 2013), but local distributors have said they expect to start placing orders for the chassis in the coming weeks.
The Obsidian 350D is the company’s first foray into the mATX space and it looks like they’ve made the right choices. There’s space for three 2.5-inch drives, two 3.5-inch drives, two DVD drives and four 120mm fans. Corsair ships the Obsidian 350D with either a solid aluminum side panel or one with a plexiglass window, although personally the windowed version loses the understated look the chassis is going for.
Threre are six rubber-grommeted cut-outs in the motherboard tray for cable management and enough space for a 240mm radiator at the top of the chassis, although you’ll have to put the DVD drive in the bottom slot for that to work.
You are limited to mATX motherboards but that’s not too bad. Many good ones out there will support dual graphics cards as Corsair has shown here for both Intel and AMD. With the extra space in the chassis as well thanks to the lack of a drive cage, any size graphics card will also fit inside.
Anandtech gave it their Editor’s choice award.
