Alienware’s Graphics Amplifier gives you more gaming power

You are a PC gamer who demands supreme graphical power, but wants a rig which can be transported quickly and easily – so you buy a gaming laptop.

There’s just one problem: what you gain in portability you lose in graphics processing power.

Alienware has taken note of this dilemma and come up with a solution – the Graphics Amplifier.

The Alienware Graphics Amplifier has been released alongside the company’s new gaming laptop, the Alienware 13, and essentially provides a desktop GPU for the tiny gaming rig.

Weighing roughly 3.6kg, the Amplifier supports most graphics cards with a power requirement of up to 375W. It works by plugging into the Alienware 13 laptop via a PCI-Express-based cable (which only works with the 13 for the moment) and allows gamers to use the desktop GPU inside it.

According to reports, Dell said that the Amplifier will not be compatible with older Alienware laptops, and will not work with other laptop brands.

The price for this mobile engine room? $299, excluding the price of the GPU you want to throw in. It is expected to start shipping in November 2014.
