Asus unveils impressive modular gaming PC

Asus Project Avalon

Asus has revealed Project Avalon, a cable-free modular gaming PC that makes upgrading easy.

The innovative design was unveiled during the Asus ROG press conference at Computex 2016.

Asus has designed a unique motherboard and chassis combination aimed at DIY hardware enthusiasts and gamers.

The Avalon motherboard is different from a traditional gaming motherboard, as it allows gamers to remove and replace certain parts, such as front and rear I/O panels.

Components are connected via edge connecters as oppose to cables, ranging from the PCI boards to the power supply.

The only component that still uses a cable is the graphics card, as Asus has not yet managed to eliminate the need for auxiliary GPU power cables.

However, this issue can be currently circumvented by using a power-efficient card such as the GTX 950 2GD5 OCV3, which does not require auxiliary power.

The project is still a prototype which showcases the possible future of DIY gaming systems.
