Intel has announced its newest Broadwell-EX series of processors, the Xeon E7-8800 and E7-880.
The new chips feature an additional QPI lane to increase scalability, an increase to the LLC (Last Level Cache) to 60 MB and a core count 0f 24 physical cores (an improvement over the previous maximum of 18).
These minor improvements are a result of Intel’s strategy of offering more and more features as yearly hardware gains begin to decrease.
The chips are primarily aimed at compute-intensive workloads, such as real-time analytics, in-memory databases, and online transaction processing.
The processors are currently available worldwide.
