Back in 2005, a little game called Shadow of the Colossus from a relatively small developer was released, and completely revolutionised the way in which action and adventure games are seen and approached, introducing gamers to an innovative climbing mechanic and puzzle-solving ideas within combat scenarios, which was rarely explored in video games to that degree up until then.
The game has had a massive influence on the industry, so much so that a spiritual successor (of sorts) is in the works and looks to capture the spirit and feel of Shadow of the Colossus, albeit with its own unique spin and flavour.
Titled Prey to the Gods, the action adventure title takes inspiration from SotC, but incorporates elements of survival, crafting, and stealth into the game.
Prey of the Gods started out as an ambitious Kickstarter project, which has now raised over $500,000 (around R6.7 million).

“In Prey for the Gods, you play a lone hero sent to the edge of a dying world to discover the mystery behind a never-ending winter. Arriving with only the clothes on your back, you must survive the colossal dangers that you encounter. To restore balance and reclaim the land from the brink, you will be faced with questions that not even a God knows the answer to,” explains the Kickstarter blurb.
Those who haven’t been following the project may have missed the fact that PS4 and Xbox One versions are now being supported as standard, despite originally being locked behind Kickstarter stretch goals.
The game is looking superb and even popular gaming YouTuber PewDiePie has been lucky enough to get his hands on an early build of the game. You can check his thoughts on Prey for the Gods below:
