Racing fans are sometimes kept out of the loop regarding upcoming titles, as the racing genre is often eclipsed by the latest triple-A first-person shooters or sports games.
However, 2016 has been a good year for all racing fans, with multiple top-class releases such as the highly-anticipated Forza Horizon 3 and the fast-paced Redout.
Check out some of the coolest racing games you can play in 2016 below:
Forza Horizon 3
Forza Horizon 3 is set to release on 27 September 2016 for Xbox One and PC, finally bringing the highly-acclaimed franchise to the PC platform thanks to Microsoft’s Play Anywhere program.
The game’s drop-in open-world multiplayer is set to shake up the genre, with Horizon 3 being one of the most anticipated racing titles of the year.
Redout
Redout is a spiritual successor to classic anti-gravity racers such as the Wipeout franchise, and aims to deliver the same high-intensity, fast-paced action as its predecessors.
The game features screamingly fast, heavily-polished racing mechanics with a well-developed ship upgrade system.
Redout is currently available on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
DiRT Rally
DiRT Rally aims to capture the advanced art of Rally driving, putting incredible effort into its terrain design and mechanics.
The result is an incredibly detailed game with realistic handling and terrain effects.
DiRT Rally is currently available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
F1 2016
The latest installment in the long-running F1 franchise, F1 2016 has been labelled a must-buy for fans of the series.
F1 2016 is developed by Codemasters and aims to provide gamers with an accurate and entertaining depiction of real-world Formula 1.
TrackMania Turbo
Trackmania Turbo has had a slighlty more divisive reception compared to the other racing games released this year, but remains a thrilling and entertaining title.
The game is simpler than other titles such as Redout, but like most racing games, the high skill ceiling allows for endless hours of competitive gameplay.
Trackmania Turbo is currently available for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
