The Gears of War series isn’t known for pulling its punches, and the launch trailer for the fourth instalment (fifth, if you count Gears of War: Judgment) is throwing some serious haymakers.
In addition to the usual chainsawing, cover shooting action, the new trailer reveals that the highly-anticipated release will also feature new weapons, some giant new enemies, some familiar faces, and some mech segments (yip, that’s right).
And in classic Gears style, the trailer includes a remake of a classic song; this time around it’s a cover of Metallica’s “Nothing Else Matters” under some narration by John DiMaggio, the voice of Marcus Fenix.
We also get to see a little more of the story, but all we really know is that 25 years have passed since Marcus Fenix and Delta Squad made Sera safe for the future generations. Marcus’ son JD has lived with that peace, until now. A new threat called the Swarm has emerged and now JD, along with his friends Del and Kait, must fight together and survive the night.
Gears of War 4 launches on Xbox One on 11 October, but Ultimate Edition buyers will get their hands on the game on 7 October.
