This is how big South Africa’s Steam community really is

There is endless enjoyment to be found delving into Steam’s back-end statistics.

They provide an intuitive way to check out what games are selling well, what games are playing, and of course how our own PCs compare to the rest of the world.

Of course it also gives us a chance to compare how South Africa matches up to the rest of the world (click to enlarge):

That means over the last 7 days (at the time of writing), South Africa racked up a rather hefty 225.3TB in Steam downloads at a decent 3.1Mbps.

That’s nothing compared to giants like the USA (who recorded 21.9 Petabyte downloaded at 27 Mbps) or Russia (at 9.5 PB with an average download rate of 16.4 Mbps).

We do however come out on top as Africa’s biggest Steam users – not a particularly difficult task, with countries like Sudan contributing nothing to the usage statistics.

You can find the Steam’s full global traffic map here.
