World War II shooters have been missing in recent years from the gaming landscape – and we miss them.

The good news is that Gaijin Entertainment, the developer and publisher of WWII air combat game War Thunder, has announced Enlisted, a new WWII shooter currently in development for PC.

Starting as a crowdfunding project, Enlisted, which is being described as a squad-based MMO, has since garnered some serious attention, exceeding its initial $250,000 goal and marking the full production of the PC version, with console version on the cards if the $1,000,000 is hit.

The game is being made by Darkflow Software, who are taking the fans’ thoughts, feedback, and suggestions into account.

Two campaigns have been made so far (Invasion of Normandy and Battle of Moscow), with more to be added as the game progresses.

“Enlisted is an ambitious undertaking, unlike any game we have ever created,” said producer Alexander Nagorny. “It will be a first person shooter decided by the fans, for the fans. They will have direct input into what we create, including things like campaigns, game modes, even which platforms after PC we will support.”

Enlisted will first launch via Steam Early Access exclusively for crowdfunding supporters, with a closed beta due to begin in the second half of 2017.
