The very first screenshots for Valve’s much anticipated DotA 2 have emerged, and it looks pretty much exactly like what you would expect DotA to look like if it was released in 2011. Sadly, there is no official release date for the game, although numerous sources suggest it will be out around September/October.
The game is to be officially unveiled at Gamescom, which kicks off on Wedneday, so we can expect loads more media and information abou the game in the next few days.
Valve has previously stated that DotA 2 will carry roughly the same system requirements as Alien Swarm. “Alien Swarm is the best example for comparing the system requirements,” said a Valve forum representative, going on to say that “If you can run it, you’ll be able to play DOTA2.”
The other unconfirmed titbit of info doing the rounds is that the game will be free-to-play, and rely on micro transactions to make money. Numerous publishers have claimed great financial success from this model, so we wouldn’t be surprised if the rumour turns out true.
As for the screenshots themselves, they were leaked to the NeoGAF forums, and look pretty legit. NeoGAF is a well known online hangout for industry personal, and the screens in question were supposedly sourced from a Chinese site that managed to get its hands on gameplay footage.
The images also reveal some heares, with old favourites Shadowfiend and Doom Bringer looking set to make an appearance. A screenshot of the game’s hero list was also leaked, so if you know your DotA characters you should be able piece together a list of confirmed characters for DotA 2.
