Valve has revealed the first official trailer for DotA 2, but don’t get too excited because it doesn’t show any gameplay footage. It’s still pretty awesome though, as far as cinematic trailers go, and provides some welcome, albeit limited, context to the competitive online game.
“Often I am asked, what does a hero truly need?” asks the trading gypsy who provides numerous items for players to outfit their heroes with in the game. “Much depends upon the hero. Would you be swift? Then for you I have speed beyond measure,” he declares, before the video skips to styalised footage of what appears to be the Drow Ranger.
“Would you be strong? Then I can grant you the might to overpower any foe,” he says, before the scene skips to footage of various strength orientated characters battling. “Would you be wise? Then come closer and I will unlock your inner cunning,” he extols, before the scene skips to a variety of familiar DotA characters in combat, including Stormspirit, The Witchdoctor, and others that I can’t remember because it’s been about 5 years since I last played DotA.

Valve will be officially unveiling DotA 2 at Gamescom this week, and we are reporting live from the event, so watch this space.
