Veteran video game designer Richard Garriott (Ultima franchise), has revealed his latest ambition, Shroud of the Avatar: Forsaken Virtues, and has launched a Kickstarter campaign to get the ball rolling.
The game, as expected, will be a fantasy role-playing game with a stronger focus on player choice and discovery rather than grinding, according to the Kickstarter page.
Unlike other RPGs, Shroud of the Avatar will have a classless system, allowing players to develop their characters as they play.
“Once players are introduced to the game, they will discover their own story woven into the immersive world and lore surrounding them. Players may choose to follow the life of the adventurer or, if they prefer, focus on exploration and discovery.”
“Players may even choose the life of a homesteader; either nestled within the safety of the settled lands, or on the dangerous but potentially lucrative frontier. The world is full of opportunities and challenges”.
The game is said to feature a fully interactive world, a deep fiction with ethical and cultural elements, a crafting system, physical items with the game (cloth map, manuals, trinkets), and even multiplayer.
There are a number of options for backers, including a $10,000 pledge option, which will get you a personal tour through Richard Garriott’s very own Britannia Manor.
