MWEB Gaming has announced that their South African Dota 2 server has been moved from the test realm and is now active in the full public beta build of Dota 2.
Dota 2 is one of the biggest online titles internationally even though it is still in a beta testing phase. On occasion, it has seen up to 297,000 players online at the same time.
A team-oriented multiplayer online battle arena game, reaction speed is a priority and the local servers will mean that SA gamers will be able to put latency issues behind them while playing.
“Not only is this a massive step for Dota 2 players, but for gaming in this country as a whole as it places South African gaming on the gaming map. With a “South Africa” region now in the game, it literally places our continent alongside Europe, North America and Asia,” said MWEB Gamezone’s Brad Kirby.
“The MWEB Gamezone team would like to thank you, our very strong and loyal player base and community for the persistent and on-going support that you have showed us over the years. It makes all the hard work in achieving these difficult milestones and goals worthwhile and an absolute pleasure to continue to expand, grow and bring the international gaming experience a little closer to home.”

I played a lot of games over the weekend and the SA server just didn’t seem to be up to scratch. My ping was low but there still seemed to be a lot of lag or it would say searching for the server and take a further 90 seconds to find it after a 10 minute wait. Eventually I switched back to playing on the Euro servers. Is Mweb aware of this issue and will it be resolved? Would much rather play locally. I know this was not just my issue as I played with 5 friends who all experienced similar problems
