Company of Heroes 2 hits open beta, you can play it now

Sega’s war-time strategy game Company of Heroes 2 has reached open beta for all virtual war-mongering PC enthusiasts to try their hand at.

The open beta can be downloaded and played through Steam, and offers players the chance to try the first 45 levels of the game’s progression and bulletin system. Players will also be able to transfer all their progression and unlocks to the full game when purchased in the first 60 days of release.

“We’ve added new match-making servers, implemented a significant amount of Closed Beta feedback and fixed more bugs, compatibility and performance issues than I can count,” said the game’s producer Greg Wilson.

“The team will continue to read comments and feedback in our official forums and participate in regular playtests with the community. We’ll be patching the beta frequently and getting into a good rhythm for our post launch support cycle.”

The sequel will feature a new campaign following the battles across the Eastern Front of Europe in World War II, the new Essence 3.0 Engine, and a ‘True Sight’ game mechanic, in which players will only be able to see what their controlled soldiers see, leaving what may be behind the next building or treeline unknown.

Company of Heroes 2 will release on 25 June 2013 for PC.
